The Match-to-Date Conversion Problem

Getting matches is the beginning, not the goal. For most people, only a small fraction of matches ever become an actual date. That's not bad luck — it's a pipeline, and like any pipeline, you can look at where it leaks and fix it.

The Four Conversion Failures

1. The Cold Open (Stage 1 → Stage 2) The first message either earns a reply or it doesn't. Fix: lead with an opener that references something specific about the person, instead of a copy-paste line you send to everyone.

2. The Conversation Plateau (Stage 2 → Stage 3) Conversations often stall once the easy small talk runs out and neither person moves it forward. Fix: after a few exchanges, ask a more genuine question that raises the stakes a little.

3. The Number Pull Hesitation (Stage 3 → Stage 4) A lot of people never ask to move off the app because they fear rejection. Fix: frame it as a logistics step, not an emotional request. "What's the best way to reach you? I'd rather not coordinate through this app."

4. The Date Planning Vacuum (Stage 4 → Stage 5) Vague date planning ("We should hang out sometime") kills momentum. Fix: propose a specific, low-commitment first option. "There's a coffee spot near [area] that does good espresso — Thursday or Saturday work for you?"
